How Do You Practice Obedience?

The bible is loud and clear – children, obey your parents in the Lord for this is right. You can never deny and disregard obedience in the fifth commandment of God. You cannot say that you honor and respect your parents if you disobey them. There is no such thing as partial obedience or partial respect. It is either you honor your parents or you don’t.

Now, how do you practice obedience? There can be a lot of interpretation with this. Some people would take obedience as just the act of following orders or commands. Some people think that obedience is complying with the standards set by your parents.

The truth is that obedience is the voluntary act of submitting yourself to someone. Obedience comes with trust. The reason why you can confidently submit yourself is because you can trust that a person’s judgment is right so you can be assured that when you obey him, it is for the better.

Obedience to your parents is not just following their orders. When you obey your parents, it means that you trust them completely and you acknowledge that what they want you to do is not for them but for you. This is why you have to be obedient to them.
